Peugeot
PSA's 1978 acquisition of Chrysler Europe (the Simca and Talbot brands) for approximately 1 billion USD was intended to dramatically expand PSA's volume and manufacturing scale but proved financially damaging. Integrating a loss-making operation with incompatible platforms and weak brand equity consumed management attention and financial resources during a period of critical product investment decisions. The Talbot brand was ultimately wound down by 1987, representing a decade of capital misallocation that constrained PSA's investment in core Peugeot and Citroën product development.
