SpaceX's Commercial Crew program experienced significant schedule delays — pushing the first crewed Crew Dragon mission from 2017 to 2020 — partly due to parachute system qualification challenges. These delays extended NASA's dependence on Russian Soyuz for ISS crew transport and created political and operational complications that more conservative original scheduling could have mitigated.
